We had a young man with Down's syndrome come in to have hip surgery. He took a special liking to Jessy and after 3 days of being his nurse, they became quick friends. His mother was so comfortable with her care and compassion for him that she was actually able to go home and do some errands and shower. She informed us that they would be coming back in a couple of months for his other hip and it would be great for both of them if Jessy could be his nurse again. About a week before the surgery, his mother called the floor to ask for Jessy. She was off that day so mom left her number. The next day on, Jessy called mom back and was very excited to be taking care of her son again. So excited that she rearranged her schedule and picked out the night nurse that she thought would best relate to him. She called that girl and explained the situation to her and asked if she would be willing to switch a night around as well to help out this special patient and she was excited to help. When they arrived to the floor, the patient and his mom were so excited to see Jessy that one could tell this was going to be a great experience. Mom spent the first night but once morning came she was off to work and left her son in Jessy's loving hands. She asked that I tell everyone what a special person and nurse Jessy is.
