I was admitted thru the ER after days of kidney pain. In the ER, I received the devastating news that I had kidney cancer! To make matters worse, I was scheduled for emergency surgery for stent placement. I was very scared, to say the least. On my arrival to my room, I was met by a very kind nurse. The nurse welcomed me into the room and made me feel very comfortable. She took the time to explain everything about vital signs, and what the term NPO meant due to impending OR. She brought me slippers, warm blankets and even brought in her phone when the doctor called on it. This special nurse helped me get ready for the OR, made me laugh when I felt uncomfortable without my drawers: saying, just "drop 'em and cover up!" I needed a great laugh at that time. As I left for the OR, she encouraged my family to give me a hug before I left. She was professional, kind, caring and compassionate, along with patience at answering all my questions. She was amazing! I was very lucky that she was there to care for me.
