My father has been in and out of St. Luke's Medical Center BGC since December 2016. We have experienced different nurses but Erlan Lipata stands out. My father doesn't speak anymore; it is very painful as a daughter to see him in pain and not know what to do or how to give him comfort. Worse, my dad has a very high tolerance for pain, he doesn't even flinch during an arterial blood gas extraction. Our past nurses in other floors merely go in and out of the room and administer medication and that is the end of it. But Erlan is truly different, he tried to understand my father's situation, he takes his time to talk to my father even though he barely gets a response from my dad, he handles my dad with so much care and compassion that I felt like I can leave my dad's side to buy food or go home and my dad will be in excellent care. It is very difficult to leave the side of my dad and not know if someone will prioritize him, take the time to analyze what is causing the pain and give him the comfort that he needs but Erlan always takes the time to check all the possible causes of pain.
Because of Erlan's attentiveness and pro-activeness, my dad was given relief from intense pain and was given peace and much needed sleep. What he has done deemed to be acknowledged and heralded. How many nurses would still try to find ways and means to help a patient despite that fact that the doctor has already seen and declared that nothing can be done. What Erlan did was truly extraordinary. Erlan's care and compassion goes beyond understanding my father's needs and ensuring that he is comfortable and pain free - I truly appreciate Erlan would take time out to discuss, explain and update me on developments with regards to my dad.
He was very patient to explain things I couldn't understand and he took the time to discuss things with me one by one. Truly a wonderful nurse. His presence as a bedside nurse or charge nurse is enough to help my dad and even myself and my mom undergo this very hard time. We thank Erlan for everything that he has done and I hope that he will be given a commendation for being such an extraordinary nurse. St Luke's should be very proud that he is one of you and that what he has done has not only given patient comfort but also peace of mind to me and my mom.
