Juan Garcia did an amazing job today! He showed dedication to a patient and a patient’s family by going above and beyond his normal nursing role. He made a special connection with a family, especially the mother of a patient. He demonstrated compassion by staying with the patient’s mother at the bedside, holding her hand while supporting her while making a very difficult decision. The family, while grieving the loss of a loved one, was extremely complimentary of Juan. The mother and father of the patient were extremely complimentary of Juan and couldn’t say enough about what he meant to them during such a critical time. The family described Juan as attentive, calm, and loving while demonstrating the ability to explain medical terms to them in easy to understand terminology. They were thankful that God placed Juan at their son’s bedside because they felt he made the biggest difference to them even in the most difficult time. After Juan’s shift was completed, he was found sitting down with the family in front of the hospital talking to the entire family. This allowed the extra support and comfort that this family needed to heal and move forward after making such difficult decisions. This is an outstanding example of how “Service is Our Passion” is exemplified by our June, 2012 DAISY Award Recipient, Mr. Juan Garcia, BSN, CCRN.
