I was admitted onto the Labor & Delivery unit after being told I was going to miscarry my son. From the very beginning to the end of her shift, Julie Campbell was nothing but comforting! She expressed her sympathy right away, while at the same time holding her professional composure.
Once they induced my labor, Julie told me to let her know right away if I was feeling any pain. Once the pain got intense I called for her and she came right away. I started screaming "I'm sorry," for yelling in pain and she replied kindly, "You don't have to be sorry".
Once my baby was born, Julie stayed in the room with me and my fiancé until my son's heart stopped beating. My son was still very tiny and couldn't fit into any of the hospital newborn clothes. She found a handmade little pouch with a heart on it that was made by a volunteer group and placed him in it. It was the cutest thing.
Julie also put together a memory box of him which included his hand and footprints, an SD card of pictures, two printed pictures and a few other things. Before she ended her shift, she came in one last time to express her sympathy, gave us both a hug, and was nothing but smiles.
Overall, I experienced that when you're in the hospital for something tragic or sad, your nurse can make your situation feel a lot better. Julie provided compassionate care based on my situation and needs and I am very, very, very thankful for her.
