We had the honor of having Kaitlin as our nurse for three days. Our son was admitted to Children's as a 10-month-old with a high fever and symptoms of Kawasaki disease. My husband and I have never been so scared in our lives. She was so positive about his recovery, she was gentle with him and she was an emotional support for us as parents. He had to be treated with IVIG, which again terrified us. I asked Kaitlin how she felt about administering the treatment and she said, "I am confident, I am not nervous. This is going to be good!" We felt so much relief. She monitored him so closely and triple checked on him.
We also had to call in CHAT the next day when he spiked a high fever and seemed to be passing out. She took the lead, handled it with professionalism and again eased our minds as parents walking us through every test of vitals and reassuring us that he was going to be OK. As I cried because I felt helpless as mom, she hugged and comforted me. This by no means is "just a job" to her. This is her passion and what she was intended to do on this earth. The love and compassion she has for her patients is beyond the general call of duty. I am so happy that she was placed in our family's life and took such incredible care of our baby. It is with great honor that I nominate Kaitlin Krantz for the DAISY award!
