There is a reason we are called to do what we do. Kara epitomizes this belief; in her heart and from the depths of her soul, she cares. Kara was my nurse post-op. Even under paralysis and coming out of sedation, I heard her name. I heard her say, "I want to try one more time." Someone else responded, "Ok, but if this one doesn't work you'll have to let her go." Terrifying words. I prayed. I prayed God would give me the strength to come back this last time. I felt myself slipping into a very peaceful sleep.
The next thing I knew I was back in ICU, still paralyzed but aware of what was going on and conversations: nurses ordering lunch, quiet whispers between them, voices of my husband and family. A few days later, Kara came by to see how I was doing and I knew it was her instantly. It was all I could do but cry and thank her for not giving up on me. In her sweetness she said, "I would never give up on you." I owe my life to her and will never stop singing the praises of the sweet nurse who cared enough to not give up on me. Words cannot express my (and my family's) gratitude. Kara will always be in my heart (newly repaired heart that is).
