One of the greatest characteristics of an Emergency Nurse is to perform quickly in emergent situations and still be able to comfort family members who are scared and keep them informed about what is going on. On one specific occasion, Karen was able to exhibit excellent nursing care as well as comfort a hysterical daughter. Karen walked into the room of a 49-year-old woman brought to the Emergency Room by her 17-year-old daughter and went into high gear. The woman had a blood pressure of 63/40 and required an immediate transfusion. Within two hours, Karen hung 8 units of emergency release blood, 2 units of platelets and administered excellent nursing care. Karen also comforted the patient's distraught daughter and helped her reach other relatives that could sit with her. The woman was intubated in the ER and transferred to ICU and is awake and continuing her life due to Karen's excellent care.
