Kathy Bradley, RN will be retiring on 10/11/16 after 33 years at SJMO. Kathy has worked on Mother/Baby for most of her nursing career. She started out as a PCA then went on to become a LPN and finally a RN. Kathy is a kind, considerate, hard-working team player. She has been nominated several times in the past for the DAISY Award.
Kathy is consistently recognized by her patients and families for the outstanding care she provides every day. Kathy is an excellent patient advocate. She ensures that her patients receive quality care while meeting their needs physically and emotionally. Kathy has helped to improve overall unit safety by conducting purposeful hourly rounding and bedside report. She involves her patients and their families in the plan of care. Patients often compliment Kathy on her practice of writing their pain medication schedule on their white board so they know when they are due for pain meds. They rarely have to ask because she is on it, which allows our new mothers to enjoy their postpartum experience much more comfortably. Kathy is an excellent bedside educator. Her patients and their family report feeling comfortable when they are discharged because she has educated them on infant care, self-care, pain management, breast and/or formula feeding, along with resources to contact when they need additional information after they are home.
Kathy has always been a team player. She is willing to help out her coworkers; whether it is helping with their assignments, switch shifts with them, and the list goes on. Kathy has the amazing ability to make everyone smile and laugh. While we are excited for her to enjoy retirement, it is a bittersweet transition because she is going to be dearly missed by everyone who has had the pleasure of working alongside such an excellent role model.
