Kathy is everything the DAISY Award stands for. She is a team player. She works night Baylor, but many times comes in and helps out during the week. When at work she helps all the other nurses. When I come in on Monday mornings, she is running, helping to get everyone caught up so they can all leave together. She is highly skilled and a great mentor and educator. She has worked with the Sunrise system since it was first mentioned and has worked diligently to help all her co-workers learn the system well. We are constantly getting i-mails from her telling us about updates and things to look for. She takes time to listen to our concerns and educates us on unfamiliar tasks, such as the epidural pump. At our last staff meeting, after hearing some concerns about the epidural, she made an informative poster and brought up an actual pump so we could familarize ourselves with it (hands on). She is a sensitive caregiver and true patient advocate. I know this from a fellow nurse standpoint but also because she was my nurse when I was hospitalized recently. She treated me and my family with dignity and respect. She never minimized my pain or discomfort, she listened to my family's input and concerns, and always followed through with what she had told us. For these reasons and more, Kathy should receive the DAISY Award!
