As a charge nurse on the Med/Surg unit, Katie works very hard to help the staff from the beginning to the end of the shift, all day, every time. Her positive and enthusiastic attitude is contagious. One of the great things about Katie how she always makes herself available to help us, no matter how busy she is. She multi-tasks and has the exceptional ability to handle difficult situations on our busy days. She listens to concerns and makes every effort to solve them. Also, when we have new admits, a lot of times Katie is the first one to greet the patients and she starts the admission process before we ask for help.
Due to her great career, she is very knowledgeable and resourceful. Also, she keeps current on new charting and policies and gives us proper advice. She initiates teamwork such as turn team to ensure that patients are comfortable and free from pressure injury.
After I survive hectic shifts, I always appreciate Katie in my heart. Without her help, I could not have done everything I wanted for my patients. Sometimes it is physically difficult to meet every patients' needs on time, but with Katie's help, I am able to. Her hard work makes a huge difference to our patients' safety and satisfaction. Her great contribution toward her profession is much appreciated. We are fortunate to have Katie as our charge nurse. She is truly a treasure for Kaiser and for us.
***
When Katie is on the floor, she exudes energy among the RNs and CNAs. She is everything to everyone, helps around and tries her best to keep the floor organized during light and heavy workloads. She exemplifies all the nursing values. She is professional, compassionate, and exhibits both patient and family rapport. She shows compassionate concern for all the sick patients all throughout her shift and still with the same energy as she started her day. She has the ability to understand and share the feelings of both co-workers and patients as well.
