Katy goes above and beyond to care for not only her patients but anyone she sees in need of help. There are so many instances of rich compassion I can think of for Katy, but one stands out the most.
It was a Friday night and we were extremely busy, Katy received a patient who was short of air. The patient was not handling the treatment well and would need many more treatments to help him breathe. Katy educated him constantly. His family received updates, hugs, blankets, and as much care as the patient himself. An event occurred and after much intervention the patient suddenly died.
The family was reeling in shock but Katy was their calm. She cried with them, prayed over them and gave care that surpassed her training as a nurse. I have been a nurse for many years and to watch how a young nurse, in a scary, sad, intimidating situation remain composed and collected is the very definition of care. Katy is an excellent Nurse.
