Too often we are quick to criticize when someone does a poor job but we seem to be rather slow when it comes to praising someone when they do an exceptional job. I want to be the kind of person who is quick to praise rather than quick to criticize.
Recently, one of my best friends was admitted to our hospital with serious lung complications. He ended up staying almost two weeks. Needless to say, any hospital stay can be a trying experience but when one has to stay for that long of a period the stress levels could be off the charts. For my friend and his wife, that simply was not the case.
My friend stayed on the 7th floor and both he and his wife were treated with the utmost of professionalism, were shown clinical care that was second to none and were showered with customer service that would rival. I visited my friend each day and was so proud as I watched the care and concern each of our employees showed him and his wife during his stay.
I even spent the night one night with him so his wife could go home and get a break. Again, every single employee showed true care, concern and professionalism to my friend. Every need he had was met promptly with a smile and every question was answered and explained with the utmost of professionalism.
Of particular note was the care that my friend was given by his RN, Kayla Eubanks. I understand that Kayla is a fairly new nurse but you would have never guessed that by the care that she gave my friend. She showed the utmost professionalism in every encounter that I observed. She explained fully the ‘why’s’ of what she was doing and was always quick with a smile and a kind word. She seemed to genuinely care not only for my friend but also for his wife.
One thing that made an impression on me was what she would do right before she would leave the room. Kayla stayed and always answered whatever questions were asked. She completed her tasks – always with a genuine smile on her face – and before she would leave she literally looked around the room seeing if there was anything out of place or anything else that she could do to serve this couple. Wow. I was so proud to be part of an organization that has team members like this!
Kayla exemplifies what we try to communicate to our staff about B.E.S.T. She truly provided ‘exceptional service…every time!’
