My husband and our father was a patient on the 12th floor at St. Luke's Medical Center for three weeks. He had been diagnosed and battled MDS for the past seven years and ITP most recently. He was a fighter to the end. Kayla recognized this trait. She respected and incorporated all his wishes for independence and hope in all aspects of his care. Her approach was firm and caring. The softness of her voice and tenderness of her touch was a calming force not only for our father, but for the entire family. Her compassion was evident in every interaction. Her clinical expertise in answering our questions gave us a sense of security in this most difficult time in all our lives. She made his and our journey to the end, one filled with remarkable care and compassion.

When she asked if she could attend his funeral we were extremely touched by this request. When Kayla attended our father's funeral services it reinforced the sincerity of her dedication and caring nature. We can never truly express in words our deep appreciation for her presence but only ask God to bless this remarkable young woman. A true asset to whomever she cares for, the profession of nursing and Aurora.
