This recognition is long overdue, but it goes to show the impact Kay had on me. My mother-in-law was hospitalized for three weeks before passing away last year. Three weeks was a long time to be in the hospital especially when the inevitable is death. Kay had the compassion when caring for my mother-in-law. She shared her wisdom in the utmost professional manner when asked. There were a lot of family members involved in the care of my mother-in-law and I witnessed times when it got "ugly" in the room. Kay remained firm, yet professional and compassionate at all times. It was obvious that she genuinely cared for my mother-in-law. As the end neared and it was too late to transport to hospice she made sure my mother-in-law was comfortable at all times. My mother-in-law called her "beautiful" and loved her lips! Kay was generous with her time and got approval from her supervisor to work over because the time was near, and we as a family were blessed to have Kay as her nurse until her final breath. I might not see Kay on a daily basis, but I think of her often and will never forget her. She's a huge asset for UMC.
