My 89-year-old mother was admitted to ICU. She was indeed critically ill. In fact, I expected her not to recover. The next day, she was placed on a ventilator at 4:30 a.m. I came to the ICU area and stayed there for 8 hours. Kevin Snyder was her nurse. I watched him all [that day] and the next day. He spoke to her gently telling her what he was doing, as he cared for her every need, (I didn't think that she could hear him?) injections, repositioning, he was continually meticulous including the application of lip gloss on her parched lips. At one point, I broke down. He saw my tears and pulled a chair up and gave me consolation. Kevin did not know that I worked here at the hospital for the first 2 days. I know my mother was not given special attention because I worked here. Only that he really cared. His nursing skill may have been learned, but his kind, caring heart, and empathy came from his heart and soul. My mother has been at UPMC Pinnacle Hanover many, many times over the past 15 years, and I can tell you that Kevin has been the best nurse ever assigned to my mother. I continue to re-live that experience and I find comfort in remembering Kevin Snyder and the gentle, emphatic, professional and constant detailed care he provided while he was assigned to her. I believe that Kevin Snyder is a true DAISY Nurse and he should be recognized for his service. Kevin is the epitome of "Nurse, Care Taker and Care Provider". You truly are special. Thank you, Kevin. You're my Hero.
