I've never nominated a nurse for the DAISY Award before, but I can tell you if any nurse deserves this award, it's Kieran Dawson. She is there every time I come in for an appointment but she's not just there physically, she's there with a smile on her face. I'm sure dealing with alcoholics and addicts is stressful enough, but you would never notice it from Kieran. She is always the first one to greet you and talk to you about how things are going. You know she and the doctor genuinely care because they take the time to listen, even though it's probably the 10th time they've heard it that day, they treat every patient like we are their only patient.
There were several times I have had to pay over $300 for a medication. Well, my fiancé and I have a baby on the way, so Kieran went out of her way to call my insurance and work it out for me, without me even asking her to do that.
When I am getting ready to leave she always tells me that she was happy to see me and to tell my fiancé hi. There are so many things, but I feel it's the little things that truly sets her apart from other nurses. I think it just comes naturally for her because she wants to help her patients, no matter what the circumstance.On days I come in with my head down, she is always the first to compliment me and tell me that she is proud of how hard I've worked and how far I have come. It may not seem like a lot but that really means a lot, especially if you are down on yourself. She has always offered up great advice and ideas on how I could improve my situation. I'm sure there are several nurses that deserve this award, but I honestly can say that no one deserves it more than Kieran. There are several of us patients that are truly blessed to have her.
