This was the first time in my life that I have been wheeled into an Emergency Room on a stretcher. I am a 35-year-old Martial artist with my own local business. I am extremely fit, but had been suffering back and leg pain so severe that I was not able to walk for six days. I was feeling extremely vulnerable when I arrived at the NMC Emergency Department after deciding that I could not tolerate the ride to a more distant, more familiar hospital. Kim Bessemer, RN was one of the first nurses to greet and reassure me, address my pain, and demonstrate such compassion, that my fears were allayed immediately. Kim assured me that they would take good care of me, and they did, from scheduling, to informing me of every procedure they would be doing, to the follow through in the other cooperating departments. I can only be thankful.
To Kim, I say, "Never stop being the kind of nurse you are. Be proud when saying 'I am a nurse' because the world needs more nurses like you".
The ED nurses are the first line when a scared, injured person enters your doors. A caring smile and compassionate touch on the arm are so reassuring. I will tell everyone about my wonderful experience at Newton and I have a very big mouth! Kim and her colleagues make the world a better place!
