Nurse Kim took care of my sister when she was intubated and admitted to the ICU. I have worked as an ER nurse for 7 years and my mom has been an ICU nurse for 35 years. We have the belief that you should never let your nurses know if you work in the field, so you can see how they truly are with their patients and family members. Kim wasn't aware we were nurses, but she never once took a "short-cut" while providing care for my sister. She was extremely thorough with her care and showed compassion and dedication while tending to my sister. One particular incident that stands out for me was when my sister was extubated and was having a lot of pain, followed by nausea and vomiting. Kim never delayed care to help ease the pain and relieve my sister from her vomiting episodes. Shortly after that, my sister was being downgraded to Med/Surg. They already had a room for her, but Kim told me that since my sister had just finally fallen asleep and appeared comfortable, she would not move her until she woke. She cared enough to let my sister get some much-needed rest and would not disrupt my sister's sleep to move her even though she had a bed already. These "little" deeds show that Kim isn't in this field for the paycheck. Her heart is in it and I can safely say that Kim took great care of my sister, as if it were her sister. Kim is such a great nurse. Thank you for all your care.
