My husband comes to the hospital every three months for a therapeutic Blood Draw if he has too many red cells in his blood. Kim takes care of him and she is always a kind, caring and compassionate nurse.

This time she took his vitals and noted that his pulse rate was erratic. She is such a very good nurse she saw he was in trouble, she hooked him up and took an E.K.G. she discovered he was in atrial fib. She could have told him to call his Doctor, go to the ER and been done with him, but I work with this wonderful nurse and I have so many times seen her doing extra things for her patients. My husband said she comforted him and reassured him that he would be fine, but she was going to call the Doctor next door to the hospital he had chosen at the Lex Clinic East. She took the time to call Dr. Blake the cardiologist to see him right away. We had no idea my husband had this problem.

They came and told me, Kim was very careful to reassure me that he would be fine but that he needed to have this problem checked out. When we went to the Doctor, they used his EKG Kim took and said he was in trouble with Atrial Fib. He was swollen, his body holding water. They gave him 3 different meds to take a week and come back. When we came back the Doctor said he needed a heart ablation. When he had the surgery 2 weeks later he was in the right place with Kim.

She showed excellence, compassion, Integrity and reverence toward her patient. I feel like she deserves an award because of her quick thorough action taking an EKG helped save my husband’s life. We had no idea he had this problem. He could have passed a blood clot. She took the time to check out her patient, care for him, do the EKG and get him to the cardiologist next door, right away for immediate care. I feel she exemplifies all the core values in caring for my husband. She is very deserving of this award.
