The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit can be a scary place for moms, but Kim helped my NICU experience to be something to celebrate. My son was born early at 27 weeks gestation after my water broke early at 17 weeks. The future of his life was unknown when he was delivered. Kim always explained his medical situation clearly and honestly so I could understand what was going on whether it was positive or negative. She taught me how to handle my delicate preemie and care for him. My son spent 116 days in the NICU. It was a long time to leave your baby in someone else's care, but Kim was my son's advocate and I told her that she knew him better than I did in the beginning because she spent more time with him than I did as I have two older children. She wouldn't take credit for that and always reassured me that I was his mother and I knew best, but I only knew that through the coaching of Kim. Even after my son was discharged, I would call the NICU for opinions and encouragement because it was scary to be at home without her guidance. Kim provided excellent nursing care to my baby and stellar emotional care to me, my husband, my older children, and the grandparents.I will forever be grateful for Kim who saved my son's life many times during the early, touch-and-go days of his life. My son is now a healthy and energetic two-year-old. Her positive impact on our lives is still being felt.
