I met Kristie while supporting friends through the birth of their baby here. Kristie was such a great nurse with them! She was, of course, knowledgeable and experienced, but her kind manner and intuition with discerning the needs of her patient were amazing. At one point, the patient was not in agreement with the doctor's suggestion for C-section, as she had been stalled in labor for several hours. Kristie talked with the couple to discuss some options, and kindly but firmly explained the sense of urgency due to time. When the doctor came in, discerning the patient couldn't really advocate for herself in her emotional state, Kristie spoke with the doctor (again very kindly and respectfully), and the doctor agreed to the suggestions. As a result, the birth went very well, avoiding a C-section, and the family was extremely pleased. This scenario could have gone many different ways, but it is undeniably due to Kristie's interpersonal skills, as well as her insight and very kind demeanor, that everyone communicated well, felt respected, and the result was extremely positive.
Nurses have a tough job, with a lot of responsibilities, and I really feel Kristie deserves to be recognized for doing her job so well and balancing all the aspects of patient care that make for a great nurse.
Note: This is Kristie's 2nd DAISY Award!
