Kristin was caring for a patient who had been admitted with TB for 50 days. Throughout that time, the patient had been in airborne isolation with windows boarded up due to construction; leaving the room only to go to procedures. The day happened to be a beautiful day outside. Kristin came to me and asked if she could bring the patient outside while she was taking her break. She took it upon herself to check with the infection control department and see what needed to be done so the patient could be outside safely, then she also checked with the rest of the medical team to ensure she had permission to take the patient outside. As I left for the day, I found her outside with the patient. The patient had a mask on, but I could tell how happy he was to be outside enjoying the weather and fresh air. I applaud her for going well beyond her role to give this patient a break from his isolation and enjoy the day.
