Our son, M, is a 33-year-old man with Down Syndrome who was very fearful of the hospital and the stem cell process. Kristina's patient-centered care approach was highly professional, yet personal. Kristina took the time to get to know M. Kristina encouraged him to walk to prevent blood clots by counting the steps walked on his Fitbit while playing Backstreet Boys music on her phone.
M was motivated to move and even enjoyed himself. Another shared interest was a love of the Buffalo Bills. Kristina wore a Buffalo Bills shirt for him one day and M was thrilled. She also made a wall chart to graph his daily blood counts, so he could visually see his progress. She offered to cut his hair when it was falling out post-chemo. When needed, Kristina advocated for M. Kristina has earned a big place in our hearts for going above and beyond in her care of our son.
