I receive multiple calls from patients asking to speak to the nursing supervisor, so this day wasn't anything different. I answered the phone, put on my game face and heard a distinctive male voice state that I was blessed. Initially, it took me back for a second, then he proceeded to tell me again that I was blessed because I hired La Shanda Watson at the clinic. He stated that she helped him with his medications, called the pharmacy on his behalf and kept updating him every step of the way. He stated that he felt like she was his "own personal nurse "because she was thorough and tone appropriate to teach anyone, especially him.
He recalled part of La Shanda's speech about "the importance of taking all medications as prescribed to stabilize his blood pressures and heart rate", then became more excited about his next doctor's appointment, so that he could tell his provider that he learned something new about his medications. Wow! I agree with this patient. La Shanda is a true gem who arrives to work early, skips lunch (not any longer, if I can help it), reviews all provider schedules and make the necessary changes without any hesitation. I failed to mention that she is a new nurse, however, she arrives to work daily ready to learn a new skill, task, or whatever is needed to have a great day with patient safety top of her list. Keep up the great work La Shanda!
