Not only is Lacey's last name "Best", but it is an adjective that has been used to describe her on multiple occasions. Lacey Best is exceptional in her bedside manner, thoughtful in her care, and swift in her attention to our critically ill patients.
Lacey was recently described in a letter from a family member of a patient that she had cared for.
The patient was in multi-organ failure after they had recently suffered cardiac arrest. She cared for the patient and family over a two-day course. In the letter, she is described as, "professional and warm. She never made us feel like we were in the way" even though the patient was on multiple drips, the ventilator, and continuous renal replacement therapy. "She patiently answered our questions and even gave us hugs when needed," the patient's daughter described.
Lacey took time the morning of the patient's passing to prepare the family. The patient's daughter wrote, "She gave me options and helped prepare me for what could be and to consider what Dad would want in this situation. She, with her candor and compassion, will be someone I will remember and treasure for the blessing she is."
Lacey truly is a blessing to the Medical ICU, and the entire organization. She has touched the lives of many patients and families. She takes exceptional care of her patients and worries about the little things, like ensuring they have clean sheets. She makes sure her patients look respectable, even though they are sicker than they have ever been before. She handles demanding assignments with swiftness and grace. In the words of the patient's daughter "She truly is the BEST nurse."
