This recognition is being sent forward by the family of an 87 year old patient on Progressive Care Unit who had been in a car accident with his wife, who was admitted to another hospital at the time of the accident. Their children had worked diligently to try and have the wife transferred to CMC so she could be with her husband who was in the STICU. HE was in critical condition and they were not sure he would survive. He improved and was on the Progressive Care Unit and ready to be discharged to an LTAC/Rehab. His daughter mentioned they were hoping to arrange for their parents to see one another. The patient’s wife had finally been brought to CMC for testing / treatment the day before and now the patient was leaving for LTAC / Rehab. Laura Lewis called 6Tower and coordinated the visit so they could spend some time together. When the CNO entered the room, the wife was in a wheelchair and the patient was up in the chair (trached!). They were just looking at each other, hand-in-hand and smiling. This was on May 15, 2012 and they had not seen each other since the accident which was on March 13, 2012. They were about to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary!
Thank you Laura for your Extraordinary Compassion and Caring in working to meet the needs of our patients and families.
