On March 8th, 2012 our first DAISY award was presented to Laureen Klein RN, BSN, CLE (Certified Lactation Educator) of the NICU.
Laureen was nominated by a family who was going to be discharged from the hospital while their babies needed to stay in the nursery. Laureen took the time to help the family understand the reasons why the babies needed to stay in the hospital and what particular milestones they would need to hit in order to be discharged. Laureen’s care and compassion for this family helped them feel comfortable with the situation and confident that they would be able to bring their babies home and be a family soon.
Laureen has worked at Trinity Health for 31 years and says that one of the favorite parts of her job is watching families fall in love with their babies and empowering them through their struggles with their babies. One of the other main reasons she loves her job is the relationship she has with her coworkers, she says that they have a great team in the NICU and that she couldn’t do her job each day without the teamwork that is evident in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Laureen was awarded with a DAISY pin, a certificate and a hand-made Healer’s Touch sculpture from Africa. In addition her unit was awarded with Cinnamon rolls and a DAISY banner that will hang in her unit for the next 30 days.
