Lauren’s strong educational background has provided a strong foundation for her success as an RN in the Surgical Acute areas at Scripps Mercy hospital. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from California State University Sacramento in 2008, after obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Biology. Lauren is bilingual and studied abroad in Spain and Guatemala during her college years. She did not rest on her laurels; she went on to obtain a Certification as a medical surgical RN in September of 2011.
Lauren has been instrumental to the success of a couple of significant initiatives to improve patient care. She has been a member of the RN Medication Administration Committee. She also served as a trainer and instructor for the Safe Patient Handling Classes provided to all employees last year. Additionally, she was an active member of the Unit Based Council serving as the committee secretary.
Lauren has received numerous personal acknowledgments from patients for being compassionate and providing them with the individualized care that makes each one of them feel special, like they are her only patient. She was nominated for this DAISY Award for helping a daughter and mother feel comfortable at a one of the most frightening times of their lives. She helped arrange a private room, allowing the mother to remain at her daughter’s bedside overnight. She gave the patient and her mother the precious gift of her time as she carefully explained tests and procedures, calming their nerves, and proving them with safety and comfort. Additionally, throughout the day she displayed a cheerful, positive attitude that meant the world to this family. The mother stated, “She understood that family can help the patient to heal faster.” It is for these ordinary nursing interventions and acts of kindness that make Laruen extraordinary.
