It has been both an honor and a privilege to work with Lauren Ramsey RN, who has embodied compassion and commitment in going above and beyond on a daily basis. Although a newcomer, her determination to provide excellent and compassionate care to patients is her number one goal. All her patients say awesome love and praises to her good work as a nurse.
Here is one good example of her advocating for a patient to do what is right. One of her patients had a sutured PEG tube and the bumper was very tight against the skin. She notified the MD three days in a row to remove the sutures in order to prevent skin breakdown. Although the patient did have skin breakdown once the sutures were removed after the third day of her advocating, her persistence in notifying the providers and wound care team prevented it from getting even worse. Per the WOCN, "her diligence made the difference in the severity of the pressure ulcer" and that the wound actually started healing by the actions of Lauren, who was assigned to the patient on three consecutive days. The patient thanked Lauren and stated, "she provides great care and I am very happy and lucky to have her as my nurse". Lauren is very passionate about pressure ulcer prevention and has joined the skin team.
Another example of Lauren demonstrating integrity, respect, and dignity during patient care is the times she is called upon to assist with patients with brain injuries. These patients can be very challenging and tiring to some. We had a patient who was a TBI and he had a PRAFO boot on, was standing at the door refusing to let anyone in to ensure his safety. He was very agitated and cursing at anyone who tried to open the door. Lauren identified a patient safety issue and this patient being at risk of falling with the PRAFO boot on and walking around in the room. She came to the door and talked to the patient and calmed him down, at which time he let her in the room. He did not calm down because of medications or show of force by an officer. She calmed him down through being genuine and listening to him. Showing dignity and respect for him as an individual.
Lauren builds rapport with all her patients and we believe these patients progress and do better overall when one demonstrates CIRCLES on a daily basis such as Lauren does.
We are proud to have her as a coworker. We think that Lauren is a great example of a nurse that goes above and beyond to provide exceptional care to her patients and keeping great relationships with her co-workers.
