My Aunt was dying in ICU and my Mother was with her but very confused as to what she should do near the end of her sister's death. The entire staff was extremely supportive. However, there was one nurse who stood out, Lauren Selgert. She went above and beyond the call of duty to intercede for my Mother's fragile state. My Aunt was not Lauren's patient and yet she monitored the situation from a distance.
When it became evident that death was inevitable, my Mother had to make a decision whether to place her sister on the vent or not. Lauren took the time to come out into the waiting room and explain my Mother's legal rights to her with a durable power of attorney. In so doing she prevented the cycle of suffering that had already endured four months. Lauren prevented my Mother from making a wrong decision, and my Mother has expressed her gratitude to me with tears.
If it's not too much to ask, I should like something special done for Lauren's dedication to duty, as well as, her compassion. Lauren comforted my Mother throughout the entire ordeal. Lauren made the loss as painless as possible. Lauren exemplified the best qualities of a nurse that any hospital could hope for.
