Being a patient in a hospital is one of the most stressful experiences a person can go through, especially for one with anxiety, depression, and no family or friends to visit due to restrictions during a Jewish holiday. You can now begin to understand what I experienced as a patient. I want to thank Lauren for her genuine caring, high level of professionalism and outstanding likeability, all necessary qualities for a top tier nurse. In the two daysthat she was my nurse, she changed my demeanor. I was admitted for enteritis and she engaged me in conversation to get my mind off of the pain. We discussed where we lived in the past, favorite sports teams and other non-medical topics. I was finally placed on a kosher, low fiber restricted diet following a clear liquid diet. Anyone else would have required a spreadsheet or a consult with a master chef. In about 10 seconds she said, "How about I order a cup of tuna, some toast and a bottle of water for you?" When my IV line dried up and needed to be changed, she was gentle and steady and caused no discomfort. Having been a teacher for 20 years, I can quickly identify those with a passion for their job rather than those who view it as a paycheck. It is clear that she has an inner dedication to her position as a nurse. I remain steadfast in my opinion that she was responsible for my quick recovery and positive mental health during my stay at St. Peter's.
Note: This is Lauren's 2nd DAISY Award!
