My wife, an RN herself, would have loved to fill this out herself for Laurie, but she died in October before she was able to do so. So, it is my pleasure to tell the story of Laurie and my wife. Laurie's connection to my wife and her compassion and empathy and honesty were unbelievable. My wife and Laurie's personalities were a match made in heaven. When Laurie was on shift working a different area, she would still find a way to stop in to check on her. My wife was released to rehab and things went well for about nine or ten days, but then started going down quickly. The cancer was so aggressive. Over the next 5-6 days, she was in more and more pain, ate less and less, was less alert, less responsive, less engaged. She became incoherent, almost delusional. The cancer had spread to her brain. I brought her back to Lakewood Ranch ER and she was admitted. Hospice was arranged. As snowed out and unresponsive as she was on morphine and Ativan, on Saturday morning, Laurie was on that morning and saw my wife's name and had to come and see her. My wife opened her eyes and said her name "Laurie"! My jaw dropped. In the condition she was in for her to recognize Laurie was really something special. Laurie continued to check on her until the end. All of your nurses are truly angels, but Laurie was my wife's special guardian angel. I will never forget her.
