My wife checked into the hospital and the next day was moved to the 6th floor where we met Leo Emata - our nurse. Over the next day we got to know Leo very well. My wife, the patient, is dealing with cancer and Leo offered me really good advice and provided me comfort in my struggle, as he was able to relate as his family member was experiencing a similar struggle.
Leo made me, my family and my wife's parents feel really special. My in-laws commented on how attentive WakeMed staff, especially Leo, were to us. On August 5th my wife started having difficulty breathing and Leo responded. Eventually as the day went on, she continued to struggle and Leo called in the specialists. They determined that she could have a serious issue and stated they were going to do a CAT-scan and make sure there was no blood clot. All this took time to evaluate, schedule, perform, etc. and when they were finally ready to move my wife and when I was most worried, I saw Leo coming in and provided me comfort. I asked him what he was doing there because I thought his shift ended earlier in the day; and he said he could not go home until he was sure my wife was fine. I almost cried and I never cry. Within an hour we found out my wife had pneumonia, which is much better than the blot clot possibility. I felt like "finally" some good news. Leo Emata is the BEST and deserves to be recognized.
