My 4-year-old son, K, hurt his neck while playing during Christmas dinner. He needed to be flown via Lifeguard Air Medical to RMH for further evaluation. Linda Williams, RN on the pediatric floor was amazing. She did so well with gaining K's trust as well as mine. We didn't meet her until Christmas Eve when she was his nurse during that day. She took the extra time to calm my nerves and let me know things would be okay. She was all around an amazing nurse. The one thing that put her above and beyond was K needed an MRI but would have to be sedated to do so. Our K ate breakfast Christmas Eve morning, so we had to wait for 6 to 8 hours. Linda was so good helping me distract him from wanting to eat or drink. If it wasn't bad enough that we were there on Christmas Eve and she was working on the holiday too. She did what most would not have done, she stayed well after her shift on Christmas Eve to go down with K for his MRI. Of all the days for her to even be at work and then stay over to make sure K had a face he knew and recognized with him was above and beyond. I'm sure she had a family dinner she missed just for our sweet boy.
If that wasn't enough, the next day was Christmas and she was K's nurse again. That morning K woke up and asked me if Ms. Linda was there to take care of him. I told him she was. He wanted to get up out of the bed and go see her. We went up to the desk and there she was busy charting. When she saw K, she stopped what she was doing and welcomed him with open arms. He gave her a hug and said, "Can I go home?" She said she would check and let us know. Within 15 minutes she had called the doctor and got our discharge done and we were on our way home for Christmas. Here we are several days later, and K still asks about Linda and tells me God sent Linda to take care of him. She definitely holds a special place in our hearts.
