Quite a few days before my due date, I was sent to Piedmont Columbus Regional by my OBGYN. Being a first-time mom I was nervous, scared, anxious, and overwhelmed all at once. From the moment I arrived, the nursing staff was very comforting, thorough, and hands-on. Although all the nurses I encountered during my five-day stay were great, the nurse who stood out was Lindsay Wright. Laboring for days can be very stressful, draining, and frightful. From the moment Lindsay came in, she shifted my entire attitude. She made me feel as though I could conquer any obstacle that would come my way, brave enough to battle whatever was in store, and she reminded me of the joy I would soon experience after delivery. After two and a half long days of laboring, Lindsay came back Saturday morning and said we're going to have a healthy baby today; you will not have to have a C-section (which I was facing if I did not show any improvement by Sunday). And she was right! After many position changes, blood pressure spikes, prayers, and doses of Pitocin, my baby girl arrived and Lindsay was there by my side, coaching me along the way. Afterward, she made sure not only that I was fine but my newborn and my husband were fine too. She even came over to check on us in the recovery wing the next day before her new shift.
I know I am a little late writing this, however, I have been busy basking in the love of my baby girl. Which always takes me back to the day of her arrival, and the Angel who help me realize that despite the possibility of having to have surgery (C-section), a healthy baby and mommy is the most important. Superheroes don't always wear capes; I've learned many of them wear scrubs. Lindsay is a superhero indeed. Piedmont Columbus Regional is lucky to have such an empathetic, kind, and caring individual working for them.
