Nurse Lindsay significantly made a difference on the life and death of C and her family and friends. Having heard the worse news one could get (that she had just days to live), C started having an anxiety attack. Nurse Lindsay went into action to help. She got on the phone and tracked down the doctors and got one of them to okay medication for C. Nurse Lindsay was making C as comfortable as she could. We were discussing that we needed more information and how could we get help and a second opinion. This is when Nurse Lindsay helped us by explaining what we could do to get help and a second opinion. We asked her and she told us what we should do. She requested on behalf of C to have new doctors for a second opinion ASAP. She was kind and comforting and very helpful. The very next morning Dr. B and Dr. H came in and went over everything with C and her family. Dr. H was wonderful and went over all the options with us. After the consult with Dr. H, C decided on the surgery.
The surgery was successful, but C had a long road ahead of her. The cancer had already spread to her lungs and her bowels. Lindsay helped us so much by walking us through what we needed to make an informed decision. She was off work the next day but when she came into work she made a point of tracking down C in the ICU and wishing her well and giving her a big hug. She visited C and all of us several times before she was released to go home.
For the short time she was with us, she felt like family. Lindsay made us hopeful when we had nothing. She is a very sweet and caring person and an excellent nurse. She demonstrated excellent care and compassion for the patient and family. She made a huge difference and we will never forget her. She gave us emotional support when we needed it the most. We praise her for standing up for her patient against "intimidating" doctors. She did her job which demonstrates great character in protecting her patient.
Sadly, C passed away months later. She had three more months to be with her family partly due to Lindsay's help with a second opinion. We are forever grateful for Nurse Lindsay.
