Recently an 18-year-old patient on the Neuro unit emergently received a trach at the bedside. Due to her chronic illness, this patient had extreme anxiety. Also, being a young adult she had a big concern about how having a trach would impact her life when she was sent home from the hospital. When Lindsey heard about the patient, she took time out of her busy shift to go down and visit with her so that she could share her own story in hopes that it would help calm the patient's fears. As a young adult Lindsey was involved in a horrific car accident that resulted in a long hospital stay, multiple injuries, and even a trach. Lindsey eventually made a full recovery thanks to lots of prayers, great caregivers and her own determination. Lindsey was able to share this story with the young lady and she sat at her bedside patiently answering all of her questions and providing comfort in a way no one else could. Both the patient and her mom were extremely grateful for Lindsey's visit. And much like Lindsey, after a great deal of prayer, great care and determination this young lady was discharged without her trach as well.
Note: This is Lindsey's 2nd DAISY Award!
