In 2001, my mother suffered a devastating stroke that left her in the ICU for 7 days. While all of the nurses were awesome there is one that always my family wished were there 24/7 during her stay: Lindy Boyle.
My mother worked full time until her stroke, had a family of 6 to take care of and loved her life. When the doctors told her what had happened, she seemed to have lost her sunshine. For the next week, whenever, our nurse was Lindy, my mom seemed to remember that she was going to be okay.
Lindy provided my mother a reminder to keep kicking. For herself and for her family. Lindy would also console me, my dad, my brothers and sister, nieces and nephews. Someone stole our sunshine. Lindy brought it back as best she could.
While we took the opportunity to thank her, I am just routinely reminded how awesome she is.
“How is your mom?” “How is she doing”
Lindy so deserves to join the ranks of the DAISY Nurse!
Reasons are bountiful but some are:
• Compassionate and caring person. Who also happens to be a nurse! What a combination!
• Lindy’s career and commitment to nursing has lasted well over 20 years. What a commitment!
• She may not appreciate this but many consider her to be a fixture in the ICU. Her directions, her mentorship, her ability to coach is a amazing.
• And as a nurse, you want patients to take care of and wish them the best but you also need friends to help you in the battlefield known as healthcare. And that is what Lindy has been to so many.
Thanks for letting me write about Lindy. She’s an amazing person who really exemplifies the DAISY Award.
