On a daily basis, Lisa partners with the patients and families that she is caring for and diligently works to implement individualized care plans that meet both the physiological and psychosocial needs of the patient. She is a strong patient advocate, who strives to understand the rationale for performing an intervention before acting and thoroughly reviews patient orders to gain a comprehensive understanding of the patient's plan of care. She has often cared for some of our most complex W11 patients and her depth of knowledge and years of experience shine through when she recognizes subtle changes and advocates for escalated interventions. Lisa has an astute ability to recognize subtle changes in patient status, promptly intervene, and communicate her concerns to the medical team. This truly demonstrates her commitment to providing the best and safest care, for she works hard to make sure the patient receives the necessary level of care to result in positive patient outcomes. She collaborates well with multidisciplinary teams and is an active participant in the daily patient and family-centered rounds.
Lisa takes the time to get to know her families on a different level and really tries to listen to what may be upsetting a family or stressing a family vs judging them. She is a strong believer in recognizing cultural differences and in educating staff. Lisa collaborated with a peer to develop a poster highlighting various cultural beliefs and how nursing can best support this in the hospital environment. This demonstrates Lisa's commitment to our patient and family experience, for she is working hard to minimize barriers as well as helping support her peers in providing individualized patient care.
Lisa is also a strong teacher. Nursing students often comment on how much they have learned from working with Lisa and how helpful she is in their learning journey. Her passion for sharing evidence-based practice and guiding the development of nursing skills is evident in her interactions with the nursing students. She encourages the students to seek out opportunities to complete skills and patiently guides them through each experience in a supportive manner. She shares her extensive knowledge of the gastrointestinal diagnoses to help guide the student's understanding of various nursing interventions performed on West 11.

Lisa brought a lot of wisdom to my daughter's case, when it came to her sensitive skin Lisa knew who to call to get her what she needed. She was a rock star at dressing changes and made me feel at ease when things took a turn in a direction we had not anticipated. Lisa was confident, loving and kind in the face of some scary circumstances no parent wants to face. She was more than a nurse, she was more like a friend reassuring me throughout our whole process. She even got a few laughs out of me. She played with my daughter and spoke so kindly to her, she truly made a great impact on us. Thank you, Lisa, for your amazing and loving care for my daughter - We will not forget you!
