I am nominating Lisa as she is truly a great nurse with great qualities. Lisa has so much knowledge and she shares her information in many ways both to staff, patients and families. She is both compassionate and professional dealing with the worst of families and working with them to make their stay better. Lisa is instrumental in advocating for family centered care. Lisa also has developed a plan of care including a standard patient plan for our neutropenic population. Lisa has been a great addition to both Pedi and PICU. She is instrumental in helping not only difficult families but helping staff with working with difficult families and non compliant patients.

Lisa is definitely worthy of the DAISY award. If Lisa doesn’t know something, she will find out and will communicate with you. Lisa has the skill of calming patients and families in many situations. Lisa’s neutropenic plan not only helps the nurse care for the neutropenic kids but it allows that their stay is better and allows the staff to be consistent in their care.

I would like to nominate Lisa Walker Vischer for her compassionate care and her role as a strong patient advocate. While there are many examples, the one which comes to mind involves a 13 year old patient who underwent a pectus excavatum repair at an outside facility. The patient was transferred to Valley Medical Center for ongoing care and rehabilitation following a brain stem herniation. Lisa worked with the patient and her parents to develop trust and a strong working relationship which was difficult following their recent experience. When there was discussion about what kind of G-tube would be placed (a Peg versus a mic-key button), Lisa strongly advocated for the button knowing the patient’s concern for body image. I applaud Lisa for taking the time to know and understand her patient and her family.
