Lori is an excellent nurse. She is kind, compassionate and diligent. She goes above and beyond working with patients and families in the Pediatric Emergency Room. I have been in multiple critical situations with Lori and she is very knowledgeable and skillful in her practice. Lori has a NICU background and she is a great resource when it comes to placing IV's and doing procedures on infants. Lori works well with families and is very accommodating to their needs. We also take care of Pediatric Psych patients and Lori provides a very calm and reassuring tone which many patients are drawn to and has helped to de-escalate situations with unstable patients.
Lori goes out of her way to make families feel comfortable. She provides education and answers questions appropriately so that parents and families feel comfortable with procedures and diagnosis. An example of this was, we were taking care of a 3 month RSV + infant that required intubation and admission to Main Campus for breathing difficulties. The mother of the patient was here by herself without family support and was very tearful. While I tended to the infant, Lori sat with mom and explained the transport procedure, equipment and probable care plan at Main Campus. The mother of the patient was so appreciative for the extra care that Lori took and could cope better with the extra support.
Lori is also an excellent team player. She is a good resource nurse to new staff. Lori provides PEDS education to outlying Emergency Rooms, so that departments that don't have a large pediatric population have a solid education base when dealing with the Pediatric population. This helps staff to feel more comfortable and competent in providing safe care to children and families.
I am nominating Lori for the DAISY Award because she exemplifies excellent nursing care, family collaboration, and patient education. It is an honor to work with Lori in the Pediatric Emergency Room. She goes above and beyond in caring for our patient population. I would love to see her honored for her years of dedication to not only the Cleveland Clinic but to the nursing profession.
