One instance of Lynette's amazingly compassionate care was for a patient we had stay overnight in the PACU. Occasionally, patients come out of long, difficult surgeries and there are no SCU beds available, so the patient remains with us for an extended period of time. This patient had been at Maine Med for a few weeks and had undergone multiple invasive and exhausting procedures. I came in one morning and Lynette had prepared her station to give this patient a very thorough and much needed bed bath. This is typically something that CNAs do on the inpatient floors. Our patient needed his teeth cleaned, needed to be shaved, and his bed needed to be changed. I was happy to assist Lynette with this task which turned into quite a process because she does not take shortcuts! After about an hour of washing, drying, powdering, brushing, shaving, and a complete bed change, our patient was looking much better and much more comfortable. He still had a long road to recovery and Lynette worked hard the rest of her shift for just this SCU patient while he stayed with us.

It is amazing to see a nurse who never forgets that no chore or task is beneath her and even something as simple as a bed bath can really make a difference for someone who is going through a difficult medical journey. Lynette is always happy to be at work, has excellent bedside manner and rapport with all of her patients, and is a pleasure to work with each day. I think she deserves some recognition for her willingness to complete tasks that could be delegated to someone else. Our patient had visitors that afternoon who got to see him with a clean shaven face and a freshly made bed; a little extra work goes a long way when it comes to reassuring our patients and their families that Maine Med staff are committed to giving amazing, thorough nursing care. Lynette is an excellent example of this!
