As a fellow co-worker, I cannot say enough good things about Lynnae. She always has such a positive and caring attitude, she is a joy to work with. I want to recognize Lynnae for a situation in which I believe she went above and beyond for a patient and his family. On this day Lynnae was scheduled in the SCU and had an intern with her. We had a patient who was very ill and eventually coded. During the code, Lynnae was incredibly helpful, calm, and resourceful. She was great at shouting out meds that had been pushed to make sure the recorder was able to get every minute documented without difficulty. It was clear as time progressed the patient was not making improvements and the outcome was not favorable. The HMC had been trying hard to find a chaplain whom the family had requested but was unable to be found. Lynnae stepped in and ran to the chapel and found a Bible. While the staff was still coding the patient Lynnae got down on her hands and knees and prayed over the patient and read him Bible verses. She was able to provide an incredible spiritual experience in an incredibly difficult time. After the patient had passed, Lynnae went into the room with his family and continued to pray with them and read Bible verses to them. Lynnae stayed past her scheduled shift to ensure that the family's spiritual, emotional, and physical needs were met.
Lynnae was not ashamed or hesitant to take on a role that wasn't her responsibility and was able to make a bad situation better. Lynnae shows compassionate care and willingness to do what is right for patients and families regardless of the circumstance. Thank you Lynnae for reminding me why I became a nurse and for being such a beautiful example of what compassion looks like.
