Elena's passion and commitment to exceptional professional nursing practice are admirable. She has served in the roles of preceptor and charge nurse. She was previously a manager on 3 South, and she has volunteered to serve in the interim manager role for MICU 1 & 2. She has been a nurse for over 20 years, yet her passion and energy is contagious. Elena's "calm under pressure" and ability to role model integrity and respect in every interaction sets the bar for others on her team. A few examples of this have been her involvement with a Progressive Mobility program for the ICU. She and a team member presented this as a poster presentation at the Adventist Health Nursing Symposium in May. In addition, they have volunteered to be the first presenters at Nursing Grand Rounds this summer as we develop this leadership opportunity for all professional nurses in our organization. She prayerfully looks for opportunities and graciously steps up to any challenges that come her way. Elena is able to connect and easily develop a rapport with staff, patients and families. An example of this is when she went to her car and gave her personal rosary to a family who had just lost their loved one. Their only request was to keep a rosary with her after they had to leave her for the final time.
