I had received a call on Thursday with the most horrible news that my son was in critical condition and I needed to get here ASAP. I had to drive from New York (16 hours) and all the way, I continued to call. The doctor and nurse I spoke to were so understanding, respectful and most of all compassionate to me. When arriving I got to put a face to the voice on the phone, Mae. In our worst hours watching our son fight for his life, she was there, and I am not speaking of her clinical skills because everyone in this department is just unbelievable and I'm so grateful to the entire staff. But where Mae shines well above the rest was her compassion for her patient, my son. It's really hard put into words; her presence there helped me stay strong when I just wanted to drop to my knees and cry! I will be forever grateful to ICU/CCU and especially Mae for saving my son, a US Navy Sailor.
