My Mom is the patient and as a daughter and retired nurse, I have never been as touched by a nurse as I have been with Mandy.
Our story starts on November 2, 2015; My Dad went outside to do yard work while my Mom cooked casseroles for three of our sick church members. When my Dad came back in the house an hour and a half later he found Mom on the kitchen floor unable to speak. She was taken by ambulance to DCH where she was diagnosed with a massive stroke and given TPA. We were admitted to TSICU where Mom stayed for 6 days. She is paralyzed on her right side with a fractured right humerus. Mom was very critically ill during those first days. The nurses in TSICU were awesome but none as special as Mandy. We were moved to 6 North on the sixth day.
Once moved to 6 north we met Mandy, our Angel! I was in awe of the relationship Mandy developed with my Mom. It is really difficult to describe the special way that Mandy has with Mom, but my whole family and our sitters have witnessed this. Every time Mandy came in the room my Mom's face lights up. She has such a special relationship with her! Mandy can get her to do things that we can't - little things like opening her mouth. Mandy has such a sweet spirit and sweet voice. She goes the extra mile for her patients.
One day, Mandy could tell that Mom was feeling low. Mandy and Terry (the team leader) washed Mom's hair. This act of love that Mandy bestowed on Mom truly brightened her day. I don't think anyone else would have gone to the trouble of giving my bedridden Mother a shampooing.
Mandy has been off the last two days. She has called the nursing station to check on Mom both mornings.
Speech Therapy is also working with my Mother, her speech is very difficult to understand but she has been able to sing! She sang to Mandy.
I feel that the good Lord put Mandy here for Mom and the rest of my family. There are not enough words to express how special she is. She truly is an Angel from above. I am so grateful for her and all she has done for my family.
