Maria, a vital part of the 2 South team, is a quiet leader who is always willing to go the extra mile for her patients. She is a soft spoken nurse who always advocates for her patients' needs with physicians and other staff members.
While working on Easter Sunday, one of Maria's patients was anxious to be discharged and spend the holiday with her family. This elderly woman suddenly realized that she had no coat or jacket to wear on this very cold March Easter Day. Without skipping a beat, Maria gave her the burgundy fleece, which she had received as a Nurses Week gift, to wear home. Maria did not discuss the event with the other staff nor bring any attention to this thoughtful detail that personifies the nurse that she is to her patients.
The patient's family quietly returned the fleece coat and mentioned the kindness of our extraordinary nurse, Maria Marisio.
