I had a nephrostomy to save my kidney and a shot to stop my cancer from spreading on the same day. I found out my recovery at IR would prevent my shot. I broke down having to decide between my kidney and perhaps my life. Marianne made calls to my doctor's office and the Radiologist to coordinate me still being able to do both.
She got the doctors to agree to stay very late. I was ready to leave and had accepted that I could lose my kidney when Marianne gave me the news. She didn't have to, but she did. She went over and above what her job called for. She saw me as a fragile patient and desperate. She was clearly compassionate, caring, resourceful, and an advocate for me.
After the procedure she cared well for me and showed me how to change the bag and dressings. Before she left she made sure that I had her phone number and reassured me that if I had any questions she would be there to answer them.
