I recently had twins and with that said I had a lot of NST's (non-stress tests). I started NST's at 31 weeks twice a week until 37 weeks. Maribeth was the first nurse to do my NST. She explained how sometimes we won't hear the heartbeat right away, but don't get scared sometimes the babies move around. She also explained how all my appointments would work and what to do. I felt from the beginning that she was there for me. I wasn't a number but a mother who had questions and concerns. I would ask her about the different heartbeats between the twins, she sat on the bed and explained all about twins on the monitor.
Maribeth made sure she was my nurse. It didn't matter if she had a million things to do, she would always hook me up, find the girls. If she couldn't right away she took her time and reassured me that she would. She made me feel so comfortable. One night I was having contractions, but not enough to stay. I started crying because the pain, she took my hand and told me the twins aren't ready and it's a good thing they stay put. She made sure I got pain meds soon after that. She was very encouraging all the way till the end. I could laugh, cry, tell jokes, be honest about my pregnancy, tell family stories with her- we became friends during my NST's 2x a week.
The morning of my c-section she met me before going in and wished me luck, gave a few laughs because she knew I was nervous. Afterwards on my way to mother baby she stopped by my bed to see how I was doing and to see the twins. I have never felt so comfortable with someone I really didn't know. She gave me the peace of mind that I needed. The hospital is not my favorite place, but she made it so much better.
